YouTube Music Not tagging AI Generated Music is a Problem
Some thoughts on the AI generated music:
YouTube Music is actively suggesting/recommending music generated by AI and it's become a frustration point. The algorithm seems to go into overdrive if you don't recognize a song for being AI and like it or add to the library. The following recommendations become overwhelmingly AI and it's very frustrating.
AI (well, LLMs) are here. If I ignore a bunch of financial and ecological considerations, I'm fine with AI music but it has to be labeled properly!
After encountering this 3-4 times, i'm done with this. "Fool me once, strike one...but fool me twice, strike 3." (Michael Scott).
It is a sad realization that enshittification is all around us, purely for one reason: stock price must go up. We are getting squeezed left and right.
My situation
Amex Platinum CC has entertainment credit. I'm currently using it on YouTube Premium which includes the YouTube Music. So paying out of pocket for another service is extending my budget.
YTM is fine. Like, it's the best way to describe it. It has plenty of pros, and some cons. But it's a great value with YTP as you basically get 2 products for the price of one if compare against Spotify.
But the AI stuff is really grinding my gears. So I began poking around just like I did before. This time I went directly to Deezer due to them being the only streaming platform actively taking a stand on labeling AI music (release 1, release 2, release 3). Spotify and Apple have spoken about it, but the implementations are not there yet.
Deezer is doing it & cleaning up Spotify
Deezer has improved since the last time I tried it. It's really solid. The Flow playlists are great, it is easy to migrate to, and the UI/UX has really improved. I'm still thinking about subscribing to a Family plan, but it's been a positive experience.
At the same time, I decided to clean up my Spotify account. Between all migrations and differences between how Spotify used to function, I have accumulated a lot of junk. So i've deleted almost every playlist and cleaned up my Liked Songs.
Anyway, just a bit of a brain dump today. Wonder if anyone else is going through similar struggles with music discovery.
